How to Match Tiles
Tiles come in the most amazing number of patterns, styles and sizes and it can be used to tile just about any surface from floors to countertops, walls to bathtub surrounds. Matching tiles can be a pretty complicated task but with tried and done practical steps, you can get around such a problem.
Trying to Match Tiles
If you are trying to fix a broken tile and the person who installed the original tiles did not keep any extra, then this is going to cause you potential problem. Finding the exact match may prove to be a difficult task. The first thing to do in finding the right or similar match would be to take along the broken tile with you on your tile shopping trip. You can find tiles in home-improvement stores, specialty tile stores and event art decor stores. If you can locate the tile that has the identical shape, size, color and pattern, then purchase it. If the tile is a couple of years old, the likely hood of finding one is slim and it’s even harder if the tiles have a certain pattern or texture.
If you can’t find one that has all the right characteristics, try finding one that is a closest match. If you are okay with a slight difference in shade, then buy it and it really depends on how you react to the slight difference. If you cant help but notice the change, then best to go looking even more but if are okay with the slight difference, then by all means use the similar tile. Whatever the reason, even if you're close to a match, even a very tiny difference can make a single different tile unsuitable.
Creating a New Design
If you already have tiles installed but would like to replace the broken ones, a good idea in creating a new design would be to replace these tiles with a complementary color or a patterned tile so as to create a new design or pattern. This will alleviate the problem of finding the exact tile match. You can plan this new design thoroughly if there are more tiles to be replaced. Create a new pattern around the existing one using tiles that will compliment the existing design and you’d be amazed at the change in overall appearance.
This is definitely a good way in creating a new design especially when finding the exact tile match is a problem. Get as creative as you want in planning this new design but sticking to the complementing color code will avoid from the pattern from becoming an eyesore.
See What All is Available
Another idea in creating a new design is to go look around for the tiles before putting your thoughts and ideas into paper. By seeing what is available, you can judge if a new design is needed or just a few tile replacement is needed. Get your camera out to take pictures of the tiles so that matching would be easier.
Matching tiles may seem impossible but there’s always hope if you can’t find the exact match. Working around the problem will lead you to a tile project that is even more exciting and creative, giving the whole décor a new and refreshing look.
